1st IX Rounders v Ardingly

29th April 2016

Lost 12-13

After watching the Ardingly girls warm up, I knew this was going to be a different game to last weeks!

Emily unfortunately lost the toss and we were put into bat first. Amber stepped up as our first batter and put the Ardingly bowler under pressure immediately with her initial delivery being a no ball. Second ball Amber got us off to the dream start with a rounder with some strong running. The Ardingly fielders worked well as a unit and we found it hard to find the gaps; we only managed to score 3 full rounders (2 from Amber and the other one from Elise). However, we kept the scoreboard ticking over with some good running to second scoring ½’s.

After 40 good balls our first innings was over and we had scored 7½ in total. It was then Ardingly’s turn to bat and Alice felt the

pressure as bowler and handed her duty over to Elise. In fact this turned out to be a very good decision. As Alice had a great fielding innings catching 2 girls out and stumping another 2 on 1st post with some quick ball from Elise. Great work Alice!

I have to mention the ‘catch of the day’ from Amber, the ball was in the air and she made the most amazing running catch from quite a distance. Well done Amber!

We managed to get all the Ardingly girls out with 12 balls spare and they scored 5½.

The second half was going to be a tight affair but unfortunately we were not good enough with the bat. The Ardingly girls got us all out with 20 balls remaining! We only scored 2 full rounders and five ½ rounders to give us a second innings of 4½ with final score of 12 for Ardingly to chase!

We started off well getting their Captain out on the first ball with a lovely catch from Sheen, and restricting the team to scoring only 3 full rounders, but it was all the ½’s that did for us today and the Ardingly team pipped us to the winning post with a second innings score of 7½ giving them a final score of 13.

This was a fabulous game, played in good spirit and could have gone either way. There was some great fielding work from all the girls with catches in the second innings from Josie and one for Elise which seemed to keep going up for ages before it came back down again!

After a bump on the head from a missed catch yesterday Sheen certainly wasn’t going to let that happen today, as she secured 4 high/hard hits into her hands. Good job Sheen and she was voted Player of the Match as well!

Well done girls, a bit more batting practice next week as there were too many of you stumped on 1st today! Thank you to the mums who came to support.
