1st IX Rounders v Great Walstead – Lost 21-23

This was always going to be a tough game as the girls have had very little practice since last week due to trips and the weather! There was the added complication of a timed innings, which again the girls were not used to.  However, Mima won the toss and put the GW team into bat first. With all of them scoring at least ½ rounder in 15 minutes and with some terrible fielding from the Copthorne girls, they ended their first batting innings on 11. Elise coped with the sloping pitch and bowled well, but the GW girls were very quick to reach 2nd post, and although they only scored 4 whole rounders, there were a lot of ½s which bumped the score line up.

It was our turn with the bat, and once again the girls were sensible with their decision making, getting use to the pace of the bowler. Amber, Elise and Liliana scored our whole rounders in this first innings, with all the girls (bar one) scoring ½ to increase our score to 8½.

During the GW second innings, the Copthorne girls thought they played better, which they did, but we were still not quick or accurate enough with our throws to stop the ½ rounders, and the hosts clocked up a massive 12 rounders making the total 23 for us to chase.

The Copthorne girls always like a challenge and we started this innings off brilliantly with Amber scoring a ½ with her first ball, quickly followed by rounders from Elise, Charlotte and Natalie. However, with only about 5 minutes left to go we were all out apart from Harriet, Natalie and Liliana. We then saw a wonderful display of hitting especially from Natalie and Harri who kept the team’s hopes alive scoring 5 rounders between them. Unfortunately though, time ran out and we ended our innings with 12½ a total of 21 for the match.

Well done girls, a brilliant second innings, but it really does show that practice is very important in games! You’ve got to love the Great British weather! Thank you to our supporters and to Ian Forbes for driving a minibus for us this week.  MJ

Amber (3), Elise (3), Harriet (5½), Charlotte (1½), Natalie (4), Liliana (1), Hannah (1½), Karina (1), Emily (½)
