1st IX Rounders v Hazelwood – Won 13-12½

There were some tired legs in the 1st IX team for this match against Hazelwood and I thought it was going to be a big ask to expect them to win this match.

As I suspected, the Hazelwood team were a useful unit and they had some very strong hitters.  Having said that the Copthorne girls played brilliantly in the first innings with Katie winning the toss and putting the hosts into bat first.  The backstop (Katie) 1st post (Fi) combination worked well with 3 girls being stumped out on their first ball.  Birthday girl Roselly also made a lovely catch from her own delivery!  After the first innings the Hazelwood girls had scored 5½.

It was our turn to bat and the girls found it really hard to find the gaps, but they kept the scoreboard ticking over with ½ rounders from Tori, Micki, Frosty, Katie & Georgia, with Katie scoring our first whole rounder.  We finished our batting innings on 5. Hazelwood stepped up for their second batting innings and they managed to score lots of ½ rounders on second post, as our fielding just wasn’t sharp enough.  They scored 7.  Although there was a discrepancy on the umpire’s score sheets with ½ rounder being recorded on the Hazelwood sheet but not on mine!  This proved to be crucial in the end.

The Copthorne girls knew they had to hit really hard and score rounders to win this match.  Tori scored a massive rounder off the first ball to get us off to a great start.  The girls picked up lots of ½ rounders, but it was Captain and my Player of the Match Katie’s day as she smashed 3 rounders off 3 balls winning the match for Copthorne by ½ a rounder!!

A really exciting match, which went down to the wire.  Well done girls, you all played brilliantly.  Very proud!!  MJ

Thank you once again to Mr & Mrs Scott for helping with transport and to all our lovely supporters.

Tori (2), Roselly (½), Micki (1), Jess, Fi (1), Chloe (1), Frosty (1), Katie (4½), Isy (½), Georgia (1½)
