Based on lasts years’ fixture, the girls were well aware that their first netball game of the season against Lingfield was going to be tough. The girls prepared well, getting in a good warmup and discussed what they wanted to achieve from the game. It was pleasing to see they were keen and focused. We could tell from after the first quarter that the visiting side were miles ahead in terms of reaction, positional play and game play strategies. Throughout the match Copthorne didn’t play badly, we were just not allowed to do much or get into any rhythm. When we did get into scoring positions, our shooters did manage to take most of their opportunities. The girls remained positive, encouraged each other and picked out one or two skills to focus on during each quarter.  The better side did win in the end but the season ahead looks encouraging as the girls are willing to take on board feedback on the areas they need to improve.
