1st Netball: Versatility Tournament @ Brambletye

15th March 2018

This was the girls last netball fixture of the term and what a fun way to end off the season with yet another versatility tournament.

Before the first matches the girls randomly selected starting positions and luckily for us many players found themselves in their actual playing positions. This was a big help as the wind was playing havoc with the teams passing and shooting.

Our first match was against Handcross Park, a team we have yet to come across during the netball season. It was a close encounter with the ball being passed up and down the court on numerous occasions without any attempts at goal. Copthorne were the first to have a scoring opportunity but as in the past, the girls struggled to get the early lead. The goals did eventually go in but we still missed too many and the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

Our next game was against Great Walstead. Again, another closely fought match. GW edged into an early lead but the girls made sure that the gap did not get to far out of reach. A quick change after half time and this helped the girls to regain composure and start a comeback. Ruby was on fire yet again as one of the shooters and helped the team to come within 2 goals, unfortunately time running out.

Our last pool game against Brambletye was always going to be a really tough challenge! We have played them numerous times in the last few weeks and have fallen short each time. The girls had nothing to lose and they worked hard but yet again got marked out the game.

After finishing 3rd in our group, we faced Ardingly in the plate semi-final. The girls had more attacking play and created many chances but failed at the final hurdle.

One lesson the girls will learn from this season is that we have to convert our opportunities!

At the end of the day, they girls worked and supported each other well.

Team: Lila, Jemima, Regina, Abigail, Grace, Ruby, Mallory and Alana.
