What a fun, exciting day of netball! The 1st netball team took part in their first versatility tournament hosted by Hazelwood. All the girls that took part enjoyed their time on court and where pleased to have had the opportunity to experience the different positions and plenty of match-play.

The girls did superbly and went from strength to strength throughout the afternoon, quickly adjusting to the format of changing positions after every goal.

The girl’s first match was against Hawthorne’s. It was a good opener, both teams attacking from their centre passes and getting the ball moving quick up and down the court. It was tight all the way through the 10 min game and we narrowly missed the last attempt to level the scores. The girls were very happy with the way they performed and continued their positive approach and encouragement into the next game against St Michaels were they cleared stamped there authority from the start. The whole team had the chance of playing GS and even the part time shooters contributed to the 7-0 win. Our 3rd game we came up against the hosts.  Again it was a very close game, not much between the teams. The only thing letting the girls down was not taking all their opportunities in the D. We defended really well but rushed the ball and passes in the last attacking 3rd of the court. The girls were back to winning ways during their 4th game against Rose Hill. It took a few minutes before they settled and stopped rushing their passes. Once they held their positions more, they then created more time to pick the right pass resulting in a comfortable 5-1 win. The girls were still going strong, fitness not a problem in their 2nd last game. We did unfortunately come up against the strongest players of the afternoon. We gave Holmwood House a good run for their money, making them work for every bit of ball possession and space in the D. Again not being able to convert all our scoring opportunities was the only difference separating the two teams. On the last game of the day Copthorne finished on a very high note winning 4-0 against Sevenoaks. Quick reactions and interceptions made this possible.

Copthorne won 3 and lost 3, ending 4th overall in the competition.

Well done to all the girls: Lila, Jemima, Mallory, Ruby, Isabel, Alana and Regina
