The girls hadn’t had the best of a netball season thus far but were reasonably confident thanks to their super performance in the versatility tournament before half term. Today’s opposition was Cottesmore and based on their previous encounter towards the end of the Autumn term where the girls came off second best they were eager to even the score.
What a difference in the girl’s performance from that first netball match!
All the girls play superbly well at the same time throughout all 4 quarters of the game. The first quarter was almost perfect; demonstrating quick, short and sharp passes. In the scoring our Alana and Regina didn’t miss much giving Copthorne a 5 goal lead. The 2nd and 3rd quarter was a lot more evenly matched. Both teams had some great court play. Mallory, Ruby, Isabel and Jemima supported each other really well to move the ball into the different channels up and down the court. Even on the counter attack they continued to work tirelessly to get back into position to win the ball back. Lila proved very effective as GK, putting Cottesmore’s shooters under constant pressure and forcing them into many errors. Her marking was also spot on which helped her to judge the interceptions to force the turn over.
After the 3rd quarter there were only 4 goals in it but Copthorne was determined not to let their lead slip. They were relaxed and not over confident and sticking to their game play of short, sharp passes they extended their lead, a comfortable win in the end.
Fantastic performance from all the girls and well done to Lila and Isabel for being voted players of the game.
