1st VII Netball v Cottesmore – Won 25-16

Well what a difference a week makes!

The 1st VII were much more positive about their play today and although there were still a few sloppy passes, we now have a lot more positives to work on.  We still needed to make better use of turn-over ball in the early stages of this match, but this area of our netball was excellent after half-time.

Captain Micki won the toss and we had the first centre pass.  The first half of the game was very even with both shooting ‘D’s having lots of chances.  By the time the whistle went for half time the score was 10-10.

After some stern words about taking advantage of turn-over ball and a couple of defensive changes the girls came out and we saw a completely different team.  Hannah and Alys were working fabulously together in the attacking D and converted most of their shots, scoring 9 goals to Cotty’s 4.  Micki and Karina marked their shooters tightly, making the Cottesmore team force passes which they intercepted.  Charlotte had a superb game in WD, outsmarting her partner and having the vision to pass a lovely ball from the centre court line into Alys to score  –  brilliant!

Once again Harriet was all over the court and her partner, and she make the transition from defence to attack look effortless.  Jemima and Liliana both found good space and contributed to a fabulous win by the 1st VII team.

Well done girls, I was proud of you all today  –  you listened to instructions well and were really determined.   Although Hannah was nominated as Player of the Match by the Cottesmore girls  –  Well done Hannah, I thought you all deserved to be player of the match!   Good Job Girls!

Thank you to our wonderful supporters, there is no doubt that your encouragement helped lift the girls today!  MJ
