1st VII Netball v Cottesmore

19th November 2016

As soon as the whistle went, all of the Copthorne girls were right into the game. After a number of passes up and down the court our first goal was scored putting Copthorne in the lead. Although there was tight marking from our defenders Lila, Jemima and Sheen, the scores were levelled to 1-1. Suddenly Cottesmore’s defence was gradually getting tighter but that didn’t stop Katie from scoring! Regina got into another great space and took the score to 3-1. However, Cottesmore put another 2 in shortly after. In the second quarter, although Copthorne was 1 behind we tried to bring ourselves back into the game and after many great passes from Rosie and Josie and many good attempts from the shooters, Regina and Grace, a goal was finally score. Copthorne’s defence really showed that they had stepped up from the previous quarter with Sheen and Jemima making many interceptions. However the opposition’s goal shooter was extremely tall and couldn’t be held back from scoring. Regina brought it back by her great shooting and by half time we were only one goal behind.

The third quarter seemed to fly by but Lila made a brilliant interception and the ball was passed down the court quickly and Regina managed to score a goal making the score 6-6. Although Rosie was against tough competition she really directed the team as Captain, and made a few interceptions. At the end of the third quarter it was 6-7 to Cottesmore. In the last quarter the girls really had to give it their all. The ball was being passed so quickly down the court that it was only a matter of time before we levelled the score. Great play from all the girls and well done to Rosie for being voted Player of the Match.
