1st VII Netball v Cumnor

5th February 2016

Won 10-7

This match was a low scoring game today, however the 1sts hard work and focus finally paid off today, and they took the win!

Like all of the matches so far this season, the 1sts were slow to begin with though and despite some fantastic defence from Amber and Sheen in the first quarter, and some good movement up court from Elise and Hermione, the girls just couldn’t seem to get the ball into the circle to finish. As a result, Cumnor were 3 goals up after the first quarter!

After a little team talk the girls came out a very different side and this continued for the rest of the match! They dominated the second quarter and the play just flowed down the court into the circle, with some superb finishes from Alice and Khushi! The defence were once again on top form and allowed Cumnor to score no goals at all in this second quarter, putting Copthorne ahead at half time!

In the last two quarters the 1sts continued to work well as a team, reacting well, quicker, and anticipating and reading the game well. The defence were outstanding again, with Catherine playing well as WD gaining some good interceptions midcourt, and the attackers and shooters linked well together to convert their chances. When the final whistle blew, the 1sts took the match 10-7, which was very well deserved this week!

All in all, a great match this week girls, although our game has still got room from improvement, it’s definitely a step in the right direction, let’s keep it up!

Cumnor’s player of the match this week was Elise and my player is split three ways between Amber, Elise and Alice. Well done to all of the girls this week!
