1st VII Netball v Lingfield Notre Dame

14th January 2017

The Copthorne girls started with high spirit as they entered the game after winning the toss, despite knowing Lingfield Notre Dame is a hard netball team to beat.

Unfortunately, it took us a while to get into our groove and the opposition took an early lead. We had some good play, however, we failed to get the ball into the D, and net, most of the time, ending the first quarter with one goal to us, and Notre Dame with a considerable amount more. We went into the second quarter with damper spirits, yet played harder and better this time. Some good drives from Josie and Rosie, and tighter defence from Jemima, Lila and Sheen, led us this quarter to let the other team only get one more goal than us.

Although our defence was better, our shots just mainly seemed not to go in, leaving us with a total of three at half way, with Notre Dame on 10. We came back in the third quarter with hopes for this one to be as good as the last, however we went back to our playing standard in the first quarter and let Notre Dame score more goals. Our shooters were still trying hard at this point, with valiant attempts at goals from Regina and Khushi, but their efforts were just not enough for us to score another goal.

We went into the final quarter knowing we were not going to equal the score, but we put up our best efforts, not letting Notre Dame get any more goals than us. Some great shots from Katie brought our score up by two, and our defence put up an excellent fight, with good interceptions from all of them, only letting in two goals. Although we had a lot of the possession, we made a few mistakes that led to us losing the ball. The score at the end was 20 – 5, which does not completely sum up the game. The other team chose Josie M as their player of the match, whilst Miss Carter chose Rosie H as her Player. (Written by Rosie H)

A good effort today girls, but I’m sure with more practice and focus, then we will be back to our usual game. My POM today was Rosie, which was very well deserved as she led the team well despite the loss.
