1st VII Versatility Tournament

12th February 2016

The 1sts were in high spirts today and were excited to be playing versatility, even more so with the promise of the highest goal scorer earning some Percy Pigs, as an extra incentive!

At the start of the tournament (hosted by Halewood) all teams had to randomly pick their starting positions for the versatility and it just so happened that many of the 1sts ended up with their usual position, which was a bonus to begin with!

The 1sts got off to a super start in the tournament winning their first two matches against Aberdour 9-1 and Hazelwood B 9-0. Although the matches were short, only consisting of 8 minutes each, in these starting matches the girls played some of the best netball I have seen so far, showing that they are really starting to gel as a team!

The 1sts then played Hazelwood A who were a strong versatile team and this was where the versatility really started to kick in, as the girls were all out of their usual positions! Despite giving it their best efforts though they lost the match 0-3.

After losing this match it knocked the 1sts confidence slightly, however they did not give up for the remaining matches, and for the next two games they were just very unlucky and narrowly lost 3-5 to Walthamstow Hall and 5-7 to Sevenoaks Prep. These scores did not really reflect these two matches, as the 1sts had most of the possession, it was just the converting!

For the last two matches the 1sts went all out and managed a 2-2 draw with Holmewood House, the winners of the tournament overall; no one else had managed to defeat, or get any points from them in the tournament!

In the final match against Hawthorns once again luck wasn’t on the girls side and they were pipped to the post in the last minute of the match, so Hawthorns took the match 2-1.

All in all some great netball was played today by the 1sts, and they took a very worthy sixth place, although I believe they were just unlucky not to have been placed higher today! They can definitely hold their heads up high though being the only team to take points off the winners of the tournament, Holmewood House!

Players of the tournament today picked by the players were Elise and Amber, who also were my players of the tournament too, and the top goal scorer and the winner of the Percy Pigs, went to Elise with 16 goals!

Well done to all of the 1st team today, as it was nice to see the girls having fun today and beginning to gel more tightly as a team! Let’s maintain this for the rest of the season now girls!
