It is always tough at the Windlesham tournament due to the high caliber of the teams competing and this year was no exception. Drawn in a group with the hosts, St Christophers, Westhill Park and Worth meant it was always to be difficult to get out of the group. A heavy first up defeat to St C did not make it any easier especially as we only woke up in the second half, 35 – 0 at the break was 42 – 12 at the finish.
Worth next and another loss this time 17 – 19 in a game that we really should have won. Our only chance of progression was to beat Westhill which we duly did. Having bossed the game we very nearly let it slip but held on 15 – 12. We were starting to play 7’s at last and had greatly improved our defence. Last group game was against the host and we knew that a bonus point would see us through to the plate. We started brightly and went 5 – 0 ahead almost from the kick off but then conceded 4 tries to lose 28 – 10.
However in the end we managed to go into the plate in 4th place. A disappointing game against Cumnor saw us knocked out 3 tries to 2 and so our adventure came to a somewhat premature end! However I hope that we have learnt a lot to take into Friday’s and subsequent tournaments. Thanks for the parental support and coffee.
