1st XI Cricket v Brambletye

8th May 2016

After playing in snow and sleet last week we welcomed the sun to Copthorne for the visit of Brambletye.

We started well taking 2 quick wickets with some penetrative bowling from the 2 Zac’s. Overall the bowling was far more consistent than last week however this was not always backed up by the fielding which was sloppy on a number of occasions. Brambletye were finally dismissed for 132. Wickets for Zac R (2), Zac C, Dan (2), Rohan (2), Luke, Ollie and Josh. 9 bowlers were used which shows our versatility.

So 133 to win in 25 overs. A slow but steady start was followed by a series of injudicious shots saw us lose 3 wickets. The recovery was mainly down to Kieron (16) and Zac R (86 not out) who both batted sensibly. With the loss of Kieron we lost 3 further wickets leaving us 50 runs short with only 2 wickets remaining.

The captain then took over farming the bowling taking singles at the end of each over. Reaching 50 he kept his head and batted through to the finish line for an excellent and chance less 86 to secure a great victory. In the end a very exciting finish but it did emphasise the fragility of our batting so a lot of net practice next week! Good to see the sun and at last a bit of warmth, long may it continue.
