At last some cricket, all be it on a very cold May afternoon. This turned out to be a cracking match with all that is good about prep school cricket. Played in a good spirit with all players from both sides being involved in the contest. Having lost the toss the start was not great with Ollie caught behind from the 2nd ball. Zac R and Luke started slowly and then Zac cut loose scoring 50 from 26 balls ably supported by Luke and we accelerated to 62 for 1 from only 6 overs. Predicted score was then 203! Zac R eventually holed out on 81 however despite Keiron, Dan, Josh and Peter sticking around the scoreboard slowed dramatically as we finished our 25 overs on 151 for 8 Walstead also started slowly and lost an early wicket to a caught and bowled from Zac C but then they settled into a rhythm scoring at pretty much the desired rate. At 90 for 1 after 13 there was only really one winner. Rohan and Josh made things interesting taking 3 wickets for 5 runs. However Walstead regrouped and moved steadily onto 128 with 6 overs remaining and the winning post in sight. In a last gasp gamble to wrestle control back the 2 openers returned. Zac C (5 for 17) then took 4 wickets one courtesy of a stunning catch at slip from the captain to reduce Walstead to 138 for 8. 13 required from 3 overs and still anyone’s game. Fair play to the opposition who held on and won with 4 balls to spare.
Great bowling, fielding, batting and real sportsmanship from both sides made this a really good game enjoyed, I hope, by all concerned. Thanks for your support even though it was certainly a blanket and 2 sweater day. Have a great half term. JC.
