It is fantastic to see the 1st XI playing to the structure that they have been practicing in training for the past 5 weeks. Our aim has been to keep possession and try to build from the back, getting everybody involved and forcing the opposition into leaving holes in their defensive line. I thought this was one of our more accomplished performances of the season so far and for all of Ardingly’s possession they did not really create any clear cut opportunities on our goal. We opened the scoring when a corner was headed clear and found its way to Zevon’s feet from around 25 yards out and his first time shot found its way into the far bottom corner. I don’t think I have ever seen a wider smile on a goal scorer! Within 5 minutes we were 2 goals to the good as Beau capitalised on a throw in back to the keeper, which of course he was not allowed to pick up; and after making a good challenge pinched the ball and slotted it home from a tight angle.

The second half played out goalless, however we continued to press on and create chances and were unlucky not to score a few more. Our defence remained solid and the midfield took part in a great battle and came out on top. It was pleasing to see so many parents on the side line, cheering on a team that is growing in confidence and skill level with every match. With only 2 matches to go it would be great to continue this positive support which allows the boys to enjoy their game
