1st XI Football v Cottesmore

28th September 2017

Another Wednesday afternoon, another home fixture and the ideal opportunity to get a win. We have struggled in front of goal this season but defensively we have kept teams at bay. The boys were feeling positive after a handful of good training sessions and it showed on the pitch. We dominated the first half and created plenty of chances, whilst also remaining solid at the back. Sam D, operating in the wide left position, was played through by Ben C, steadied himself before firing low and hard into the bottom corner for our opener. We continued to press and this time it was Joseph who found space on the edge of the box. His well struck effort cannoned off the post and the half clearance rolled into Jacob’s path who duly found the far corner for a 2-0 lead. We could have added to our tally but it was not to be and we went in at the break with a comfortable lead.

Cottesmore hit back in the second half and put us under constant pressure. We seemed to take our foot off the gas a little and accepted the pressure, which then creates panic. A finely struck free kick looped over the top of Austin to reduce the deficit but this was to be the last goal of the game. It was great to get a win under our belts but the boys must realise that there are two halves in a game of football! Next week we are at home again to Lancing Prep. I hope to see you all there once again. MA
