After 2 intense rugby sessions we had to revert back to football for the final game of the season against Cumnor House. This was a closely contested match with very few chances for both teams in the first half. Cumnor probably shaded it slightly in terms of possession but they struggled to create any clear cut chances other than some long range efforts. At half time with the scores level at 0-0 there was every chance for us to put our stamp on the game and grab the win.
The game began to open up as both sides started to commit more players forward and the defences were beginning to feel the strain. An under struck clearance found it’s way in to the feet of the Cumnor attacker who slotted into the far corner to opening the scoring. Although we were attacking with purpose we couldn’t quite manage to find that killer pass in the important areas. The game was put beyond us in the final minute as the visitors were awarded a penalty for a foul in the box. It was duly put away to record a 2-0 win for Cumnor.
I have been pleased with the boys this season. They have made good progress since September and recorded some very respectable score lines over the course of the season. Well done and good luck for the rugby season.
