1st XI Hockey v Great Walstead

Walstead    4    Copthorne    0

Our man of the match:  Nils

The First XI got their first taste of hockey this season, and they made a good account of themselves, though at the end of the day we came out a clear second to a more experienced and well-drilled Walstead team.  We played with good determination, and Nils and Harry both stood out with some great defensive tackles throughout the game, but as a team struggled to make clean contact with the ball in the same way that some of the Walstead lads did.  We lacked a little width too in our game, and need to keep more definite shape in future matches with our wingers holding positions out wide to leave more space for play in the middle.  We came out strongly at the beginning of the second half, and put our opponents under considerable pressure for a while, but their defensive anchorman proved to be a formiddable obstacle to our attacks.  Oscar managed to create a couple of chances for Joe up front with some great passes; but the Wallstead keeper made a good job of keeping us out.  Well done to all the boys; a positive outing; hopefully we will compete better in the next game.
