1st XI v Cottesmore

The historic Bank Holiday Cup match, ( I believe it used to be played on the Bank Holiday weekend),  against Cottesmore, with a 20/20 format. For once a lovely day and despite being put in to bat we were quietly confident. Despite losing Ian early on that confidence appeared well founded as Jamie (17) and James N ((60) batted us into a strong position through lusty blows and sharp running . We reached 95 for 2 with 5 overs left and were in an excellent position to post a very solid score. However some rather weak batting and slow scoring saw the team score only 28 runs in the last 5 overs for the loss of 3 wickets!. Having posted 123 we would have to bowl very well to restrict the opposition to less than the required run per ball. We started well with James N and Ben K reducing the opposition to 19 for 3 after 5 overs with James so close to his first hat-trick. However the change bowlers did not bowl well and leaked runs rapidly going at over 10 runs per over. Despite a couple of smart catches from the ever improving Matthew behind the stumps and the ever reliable Jamie we managed to “snatch defeat from the jaws of victory!”.  Cottesmore always have a good cricket side but we really should have won this one and so spoil their 13 match winning streak! Apparently we provided their toughest opposition so far but that is of little consolation.  JC
