1st XI v Pennthorpe

Last regular season game for the boys most of which were fresh back from France and astonishingly a hot sunny day greeted the arrival of Pennthorpe.  I would like to thank Jack I for stepping into the breach at the final hour as cover, more of him later.

Things got off to a flyer with Ben K taking a wicket in the very first over. However that was really the highlight of our bowling as Pennthorpe piled on the runs with the next wicket falling at 140!! Despite good bowling from James N taking 3 further wickets the runs kept flowing and they finished on 186 for 5. A fairly daunting total.

We got off to a decent start with Ian H (5) and Jamie W (16) getting the score board moving and the rate picked up with Ben K (12) and James N (51) looking good and the game very much in the balance. With 9 overs to go we only needed 9 and over with 8 wickets remaining and the games appearing to be ours. The loss of 6 wickets for 7 runs put that dream to bed as a procession of poor shots reduced us to hanging on mode. Matt E and Jack I enter the fray with a grand total of 1 run between them and Jack never having played in the team, add in 3 and a bit overs and confidence was not that high! Oh ye of little faith as Matt, 5 not out and Jack, 1 not ou,t saw us hang on for the draw. Great work you two!!
