1st XI v Windlesham

A new fixture this year and it was greeted by good weather and an excellent track.
Windlesham won the toss and elected to bat and, courtesy of some excellent stroke play together with generous bowling and a lot of lack lustre fielding, they amassed a formidable 197 for 6 in 25 overs! On the bowling front only Jamie came out with any real credit( 2 for 39) and this would have been better had he been better supported in the field.
Chasing down such a total was never really on so it was a matter of showing some character with the bat. The start wasn’t great with the loss of Ian in the 2nd over but Jamie and James looked untroubled against some sound bowling. The next wicket fell at 18 and then a positive stand between Ben K and James took the score into the 40’s. James and Josh took us to 61 for 3 before the great colapse as we lost the next 6 wickets for only 3 runs. The bowling was OK but the application shown by a number of batsmen was poor. Our last pair had to survive 5 overs for the draw. To be fair Matthew really dug in and batted very sensibly and Oliver, whilst riding his luck, managed to negotiate the last few deliveries to force a draw. The last two need congratulating as they clearly showed that even against good bowling a positive attitude will get you there. I think some of the earlier batsmen need to take note!
