1st XV Rugby v Brambletye

Although the score line (41 – 7) would suggest a very one sided game nothing could be further from the truth. This was a real battle with Copthorne taking the early honours as they blitzed the opposition in all areas of play. The only warning sign was that the possession did not turn into points and slowly Brambletye backs began to cause problems and score points. By half time despite heroic efforts from the team we were well down but certainly not out. The second half showed, if anything, even greater determination and the second half was very even including the scores. I have to say that the boys played some of the best rugby of the season and when you consider that 10 of the side will be back next year they are also very young and still learning. Brambletye simply had too much pace in the backs but I was delighted with the spirit shown and the way a number of junior players really stepped up to the mark. Once again great credit to the leadership of Charlie and Rob who showed why Hurstpierpoint have awarded them both a Downs award for next yearJC
