2nd Hockey vs Priors Field

28th September 2017

Won 3-1

The 2nds had a fantastic match away at Priors Field. All the girls combined well, picking up the ball with control and rolling away from the approaching defenders to making early passes out wide. Copthorne was the first to score, a good team goal; Hannah picked the ball up in the circle but was well marked. She had the composure to play the ball back to her team mates who then transferred the ball to the opposite side where Tali was waiting unmarked to put the ball passed the GK. The girls continued to build one attack after the next and game close to adding a 2nd, unfortunately the ball fell for the opposition and we were caught off guard by their break away, Regina did well to stop the first shot but they had to many players in the circle and followed up the rebound to equalise.

Emily added Copthorne’ s 2nd goal straight away from the 2nd half push back, picking the ball up and run unopposed into the circle to score. Again the girls worked hard and supported one another, Abigail super in the midfield, transferring the ball from defence to the forwards and channelling opposition away from danger. The team’s last goal and Tali’s 2nd for the day came from having sticks down in the D, anticipating the rebound off the GK and constant pressure.

Once again a fantastic match, the girls did what was asked and did the basics really well. Well done to Abigail for being voted player of the match.

Team: Regina (GK) – Fantastic, first time in goal. Mallory and Emily – Super defending, flat stick tackles and getting the ball out early and with pace. Abigail – Midfield – worked tirelessly throughout the game. Energiser bunny of the team. Emily (1), Hannah and Tali (2) – Forwards – fantastic positioning and leading into space. Great vision and early shots on target.
