2nd IX Rounders v Ardingly – April 2017

1st May 2017

In freezing conditions we started to play our first game of rounders for the Summer Term!

Ardingly lost the toss and Captain, Abi put the visitors in to bat first. The Ardingly girls made a steady start, taking no risks; after each girl had batted twice they had only scored 2½ rounders. Our fielding was good, although due to cold hands, catches were missed, but the girls supported each other brilliantly.

However the visitors started to take risks with one bat each left and the weather took a turn for the worse … to say the least! The hailstones started falling with 5 balls left in this innings … we resumed after a short break and Ardingly had ended well scoring 8 rounders in total.

The girls all agreed to play on and so the Copthorne girls went into bat. However, everyone was cold and wet by now and we couldn’t feel our toes! After everyone had batted we decided to abandon the game with the girls scoring 5½. Isobel was top scorer with 2 rounders, but well done to the whole team for battling on! Congratulations to Abi who was voted player of the match.

Team: Abi (1½), Hannah (½), Isobel (2), Orianne (½), Jenna, Leah (½), Shriya, Isabella, Grace (½) & Lara

Unfortunately the U9 and U8 matches were abandoned due to the bad weather.
