2nd IX Rounders v Cumnor – Lost 9½-11

Finally the girl’s got their first rounders match underway! On a fabulous day the 2nds travelled down to Cumnor, where they won the toss and chose to field first. Alice got the innings started with some fabulous bowling and backed up well with sharp fielding from the rest of the team. Madison reacted well at backstop, taking a fantastic catch and soon afterwards Alice held onto one of her own. Cumnor had to go for the big hits as Copthorne chased the ball down and quickly got it to Zillyan on 2nd post before ½ rounders could be scored. Soon it was our turn to bat, the girls made got contact and ran sensibly between the posts, scoring ½ rounders throughout the innings. By the end of the 1st innings the scores were all tied at 5½.

Copthorne continued their good form into the 2nd innings and took early advantage with Hermione holding onto a catch off the second ball. Cumnor forced the pace of the game, pushing between posts and picking up well risked ½ rounders. The girls responded positively and maintained composure in the field, stumping many batters out on 1st and 2nd posts as well as Alice adding her second catch of the game.  Throughout the game both teams matched each other with the bat and the ball. It was now up to Copthorne to see if we could clinch a win. Alice reeled in the score by hitting a rounder and soon the girls were in reach, unfortunately the visiting side saw the remaining number of balls become fewer and fewer with just 1½ more to get. Cumnor did well to close out the match with good field placement and accurate throwing.

Well done to Zillyan for being voted player of the match. She read the game well and was found all over the field, stumping many batters out. HP
