The girls 2nd IX rounders team got off to a good start against Great Walstead. Alice was very consistent and accurate with her bowling and with the support of her fielders, the visiting side only managed to score ½ a rounder in 10 balls. It took just one good hit from Great Walstead to turn the momentum of the innings around, forcing fielding errors from Copthorne. We managed to keep them to a total of 5½ with Madison and Elizabeth taking a catch each as well as a stumping on 1st and 2nd post. We then went into our batting innings and somehow, it was a repeat of the previous week, making contact but not hard enough or in space therefore falling 2½ rounders behind after the 1st innings.
In the 2nd innings Great Walstead found their range and distance, even with Elizabeth and Hermione taking catches, they still scored an impressive amount of rounders. The girls did well to support and encourage one another to keep going and restricted the flow of rounders towards the end. The girls knew they had to improve on their batting if they were going to get anywhere near the required total. Dot ball after dot ball, the girls realised it was not their day today. Despite great hits from Zillyan, Alice and Hermione the ball unfortunately went into the hands of the opposition and so were caught out on many occasions.
Player of the match today goes to Alice for her solid bowling and aggressive batting. HP
