Arjun starts goal fest!
It has been a difficult season for the 2’s as they have faced significantly superior opposition and it was likely that Ardingly would prove to be more of the same. I have praised the side for their commitment thus far and I have to say that they have improved greatly since the start of the year.
The game started with the usual sparring and it was good to see that we were giving as good as we got, in fact we appeared to be getting on top. For the first time the boys were maintaining some sort of shape and it was clear to see that there were distinct lines on the pitch with Aiden, Toby V and Jack at the back, Tom, Toby C and Arjun across the middle and André and Rohan up front. We started to “pass” the ball rather than simply boot it anywhere. This approach created a number of notable chances with Toby C André, Tom and Rohan all having decent attempts at goal. Ben E looked solid at the back on Ardingly’s few forays up field which gave the defence real confidence . It was, however, Arjun who broke the deadlock scoring comfortably from close in. Our first goal of the season and both the relief and the growth in confidence were clearly evident.
A moment of both madness and humour from Jack (you had to be there) gave Ardingly the opportunity for an equaliser which they duly took so 1 – 1 at the half.
With confidence high I think the boys actually listened at half time and we were irresistible in the second period. Rohan scored almost form the kick off after good work in the midfield and then quickly added a second. The industrious André got his reward with a well taken goal and then scored a second for good measure. The game finished with a 5 – 1 win however it was the manner of the win and the great effort made by all the boys of both teams which made the game so enjoyable to witness. I know that all the parents watching enjoyed the match and it was a very good way to finish this half term.
More challenges ahead after the break but I am sure that, as usual, we will meet them head on. Have a great half term! JC
