A very exciting game where the boys played really well ultimately lead to disappointing defeat to Great Walstead. After winning the toss and choosing to bowl first the opening pair for Great Walstead hit the ball around nicely. Finally a breakthrough when an edge carried to Elliott at slip and he clung on. After this wickets fell at regular intervals with all bowlers bowling really well and all taking wickets. The fielding backed this up as only one catch was dropped with 6 taken to remove Walstead batsmen including two from wicket keeper Dan. None of the Walstead batsmen were really able to get going. The final pair played the ball around to cause a few problems but it was pleasing to get the opposition all out for a very reachable 97.

The Copthorne reply started brilliantly. Nick played the ball around really well and was supported well by Elliott who was eventually caught. Austin played a couple of nice shots who was harshly given out caught behind when it seemed he hadn’t touched the ball at all. Freddie then came in would stay there until the very end. Unfortunately Nick was run out after a terrible mix up and the next 3 batsmen were all out for very few runs. Dan came into to try and help Freddie get towards the target and together they played really well. With 3 overs to go the target was 18 runs away but unfortunately the Great Walstead bowlers bowled these overs very well giving little opportunity to score runs. In the end the boys fell 13 runs short of victory, such a disappointment after such a positive start.
Well played to all the boys involved. In my eyes you deserved to win the game as overall you bowled particularly well and backed this up with some solid batting from most. Fingers crossed that elusive victory will come by the end of the year. You deserve it.
