Drew 2-2

Copthorne won the toss and had first push. Both teams were a little slow to start but once we got over our initial match nerves we found our form and started to link passes together. Our passes were solid, strong and accurate and we also made good use of the wall. Copthorne began to dominate play and started to put the Hazelwood defence under pressure. Rosie, Khushi and Natasha supported each other up front, running off the ball, creating spaces and several chances. Natasha came very close to scoring sending the ball just inches wide of the post. Sheen and Madison were both very solid in defence making strong precise tackles and clearing the ball well. After a positive team talk Copthorne started the second half with determination, believing that they could win. Once again it was Copthorne with all the play in the oppositions half. After a quickly taken free pass, Katie reacted well at the top of the D and scored a well executed goal. Hazelwood responded shortly afterwards with their first goal. With the score now 1-1 both teams upped their game and the play was end to end with both teams fighting to keep possession. Copthorne were awarded a short corner; Natasha sent the ball to Rosie who stopped the ball drove into the D and scored not giving the Hazelwood defence time to react. Once again Hazelwood responded with a goal to equal the score. Towards the end of the match Copthorne regained control but could not get the ball past the goalkeeper and over the goal line. In the last few minutes Natasha had a goal disallowed for lifting the ball. The final whistle went with the match ending in a draw. A very encouraging match! It was great to see the skills worked on in games sessions earlier in the week had been used successfully in the match. Well done to all the girls for their hard work and to Khushi who was voted player of the match. JC
