After a good warm up, winning the toss and the end of exam week the girls was eager to get started. Right from the start both teams were evenly matched and the game flowed from end to end. Madison, Katie and Maddie were strong in defence and broke down any attack that HXP made. The Copthorne forwards; Khushi, Rosie and Ilana continued to pressure the opposition and their efforts were rewarded with a goal by Khushi. HXP started to get back into the game and scored their first goal. Shortly afterwards Khushi worked the ball from just within the oppositions half and once in the D saw her opportunity and scored an excellent goal. HXP upped their game and Katherine was put under pressure in goal. She managed to clear the ball but the defence could not mange to get the ball out of the D and HXP scored an equalizer. Just before the whistle went for half time HXP scored another goal against the flow of play. After an evenly matched first half HXP started the second half the stronger and started to dominate play scoring 2 goals in quick succession. With the score at 5-2 Copthorne began to fight back. Katie scored from a short corner and Rosie added to the score shortly afterwards. Copthorne were back in the game and seemed to find their form once more creating several chances within the D. Against the flow of play the opposition added to their score with a goal deflected off a Copthorne stick in the D. In the last 5 minutes Copthorne dominated play and
Rosie scored her second goal of the match. With less than a minute left Copthorne were awarded a short corner; taken by Khushi to Katie who stopped the ball cleanly took one step into the D and scored not giving the opposition time to react. The final whistle went and the score was 6-6. Congratulations goes to both teams for an excellent afternoon of hockey.
Well done to all the girls who played and a special mention to Rosie who was voted player of the match. JC
