2nd VII Netball v Brambletye

29th January 2018

Lost 4-11

Wet and windy weather plus water logged netball courts meant that this weeks matches were played indoors. Copthorne started the match a little nervously which allowed Brambletye to take an early lead. We struggled to keep up with the pace set by the home team and this lead to them dominating the play, winning the first quarter 4-1. In the second quarter Copthorne stepped up a gear and our marking was much tighter and movement around court controlled. The match was very competitive with both teams evenly matched. Ruby worked tirelessly in the centre court driving the ball forward in attack but also applying the pressure and defending when needed. In defence Alayna and Jenna were marking their opposition very tightly enabling them to consecutively intercept the ball to regain possession.

We started to hold our positions which helped to create space for players to run onto, creating attacking opportunities. Grace and Shriya were very tightly marked by the Brambletye defenders and had to work extremely hard to gain possession of the ball within the shooting circle. At half time Brambletye were in the lead 5-2. In the third quarter both teams continued to play netball to a high standard and the play went back and forth across the court with each team only scoring one goal each. Unfortunately in the last quarter we seemed to lose focus and made too many fundamental errors allowing the opposition to dominate and control the game. The Brambletye shooters were on superb form scoring 5 goals! Although it was a win for Brambletye the final score did not reflect how the girls played today as the match was very competitive and evenly matched.

Congratulations to Grace who was voted player of the match and a special mention to Ruby for her tireless effort and determination throughout. Well done! The team: Shriya, Grace (captain), Emily, Hannah, Ruby, Isabella, Jenna, Alayna.
