After a very productive training session this week the girls were very keen to improve and correct their mistakes in today’s match. The first quarter got off to a very evenly contested game but it was Cumnor who settled into their rhythm first which allowed them to take an early lead. We struggled to keep up with the fast pace set by the opposition and Copthorne found themselves down 4-1 after the first 10 minutes. In the second quarter centre court players Abigail, Emily and Isabella worked well together mov-ing the ball down the court into shooters Grace and Shriya. However at times we moved a little too fast and struggled to keep possession. Cumnor took advantage of this and went into the lead 8-2 at half time.
After a positive team talk and asking the girls to focus on channeling and holding space, Copthorne were on fire in the second half. Ruby injected pace into the match and the girls start-ed to work as a team. I was pleased to see them holding space and switching channels which helped to create space enabling the ball to be passed quickly down the court. Grace and Shriya moved superbly within the D shooting with great accuracy. Alayna and Hannah were very strong in defence, making numerous interceptions, stopping the opposition from having possession in their attacking third. What a fabulous 10 minutes of netball! Copthorne winning the quarter 6-3. Going into the last quarter Copthorne remained positive and played some excellent netball. Ruby was all over the court as centre turning over the ball on many occasions, linking well with Emily in attack. Although the match ended in a win for Cumnor the girls should be congratulated on a tremendous team effort with some truly excellent netball being played in the second half.
Player of the match was Shriya for her excellent shooting and congratulations to Ruby who in the second half was just superb!!
