In the first quarter Copthorne took a while to settle into their play and adjust to the smaller court size. In the first 5 minutes our play was a little muddled and crowded with the ball being intercepted by St Christopher’s. However we started to hold our positions which helped to spread the game out. At the end of the first quarter Copthorne were in the lead 4-2.
In the second quarter we were much stronger. Centre court players linked well together with Ruby driving the ball forward in attack, but also applying the pressure and defending when needed. Shriya and Grace moved and passed superbly within the circle, scoring 6 goals between them. During the second half the girls once again picked up their game. Alayna’s marking was tight in defence and Jenna was much stronger when contesting for the ball giving the opposition very few opportunities to shoot. Grace shot superbly scoring some fantastic goals from the edge of the circle. Centre court players Isabella, Hannah and Ruby worked well as a unit, making good use of the width of the court, holding space to create attacking opportunities. At the end of the quarter we had managed to increase our lead by 8 goals. In the final quarter Copthorne managed to maintain their lead although there were some very tired legs! The final score was an impressive win 22-14.
