2nd XI Cricket v Cottesmore

The final game of the season saw the 2nd XI make the trip to Pennthorpe with the game being played at neighbouring Rudgwick Community Centre.

Arjun won the toss and put the hosts in to bat first. Our bowling and fielding were pretty good today and although we only took 3 wickets it was our assertiveness in the field that claimed 2 good run outs from the arms of

Daniel S and wicket keeper Daniel W. Daniel S took a great diving catch off Alex’s bowling to halt the run rate and send one of the openers back to pavilion. Pennthorpe ended their innings on 135 runs giving our boys a target of just under 7 runs an over.

We have had a nasty habit of conceding early wickets all season long and today was no different. We never really threatened to match the required run rate, however, there were some lovely shots played and ambitious running between the stumps in a bid to record a respectable score line. Once again, we batted through the 20 overs and managed to keep some wickets intact but with a final score of 82 we were 54 runs short.

Although we lost the game I was pleased with the boys’ efforts. We have struggled to score runs all season so to hit 82 is a nice way to finish off. A huge thank you to everybody who has represented the 2nd XI this year; we have never put out the same side in consecutive weeks!

Notable batsmen:

Daniel S – 24 runs
Matteo F-T – 15 runs (this was his first ever game of cricket) There were also runs for Arjun, Daniel W, Alex, Robert, Nathan and Austin.

Notable bowlers:

Alex – 19 for 1 from 4 overs
Austin – 17 for 1 from 4 overs

There were also overs for Arjun, Robert, Daniel S and Thomas. MA
