The final game of the season saw the Second Team finally secure a well-deserved victory over Cottesmore on Wednesday afternoon. With Nick winning the toss, Copthorne put Cottesmore into bat first and put on a solid bowling display. Wickets fell at regular intervals and were taken by a variety of bowlers including Nathan, Nick, Kye, Elliott and Austin. The fielding standards were good with not much making it through and Zevon holding on to a good catch, much to his own amazement! Unfortunately a few wides started to creep into every over and kept the opposition scoreboard ticking along as not many runs were being scored off the bat. In fact the extras columns nearly doubled Cottesmore’s score although a target of 72 was very reachable.

The Copthorne innings started off slowly and wickets fell with poor shot selection. Once the two opening bowlers had bowled their 4 overs each runs became easier to score although still some poor wickets fell which made the task harder than it should have been. Eventually Beau and Kye were left at the crease and slowly but surely they started to boost the score. Add to this extras and the target became closer and closer before finally Kye hit the winning runs with 2 overs to spare.

Well done to the whole team who have worked hard this season and have not necessarily had results go their way. I hope that the Year 8 boys continue to play cricket in their new schools and that the boys in Year 7 will work hard to pushing for a first team place next year. CC
