Wednesday the 5th of June saw the 2nd XI travel to Cottesmore for the weeks fixture. Feeling confident after a great Tuesday practice, spirits were high and the boys seemed focused. We bowled first, however unfortunately did not seem to carry over the performance from the day before. With 1 very short boundary that Cottesmore utilised very effectively, we were soon struggling to keep the runs down. Some better bowling by Ian Browne, Joe Gache and Even Penlington managed to stabilise the run rate for a few overs. A wicket brought a new batsman to the crease, who unfortunately was very strong on the leg side and made good use of the short boundary. After our 25 overs, they had made a total of 166. As we have been struggling with our batting all season this was going to be a big ask, but the boys were confident that it was possible. We started badly losing our 1st wicket in the first ball of the game however seemed to get back on track for a while after that. With the loss of our second, things headed south pretty quickly and it wasn’t long before we were all out.
Lots of work to do to get our batting up to scratch, but with hard graft and a good attitude we should be well on our way. DH
