The 2nd XI were in good spirits travelling to Duke of Kent, knowing that if they kept focus in the field they stood a high chance of leaving with a victory. Opting to bat first the hosts made a slow start and with 5 overs gone they found themselves on 13 runs and a wicket down. It was looking promising for our boys as they continued to keep it tight in the field; which was a huge step up from last week. The scoreboard ticked over slowly throughout the innings with a loss of 4 more wickets to settle on a total of 118 runs after 20 overs.
Our batting innings followed a similar pattern to Duke of Kent’s – 5 overs, 12 runs, 1 wicket down. However, from here we just could not keep up with the required run rate and with every over bowled we fell further behind. Once again we batted through the 20 overs but fell short of the target by 36 runs. There was no real difference in ability between the sides and what it came down to was shot selection and taking advantage of the short boundary on the leg side – they did, we didn’t!
