Whilst at first look it was more like a warm up round for the British Open golf, there was actually some decent hockey on display at times, and although I doubt that the groundsman is amused with his newly divoted pitch, it did play very smoothly and drew compliments from all around!
Great Walstead turned up with 9 players, so we lent them the wonder of Max to bolster their side. He turned out to be a great asset to them, and it was a blessed relief when we got to half time having only conceded one goal! Goalkeeper Morgan was called upon to make a few saves that he did reliably, and was unlucky to be beaten by the shot, late in the half. After half time we swapped Max for Thomas in the opposition side, and started to turn it on! Defender Min-Chan was nothing if not persistent and deserved his man of the match award for his overall dogged performance. He, Ollie C and Ryan helped to release speedy winger Chris who managed to put quality balls into the middle of the D. It was striker in chief Jamie P who got both our goals- the first to equalise was a clinical strike, and the second was equally well taken. Shot of the day was probably Jordan who cracked one into the goal from about 30 yards, through the goalie and 4 defenders, but it could not count from outside the D.
It was a very solid performance in the end, and a well deserved win.
