On Wednesday the boys came up against St Christopher’s in the first rugby game of the school year. On the freshly marked pitch the boys opened pretty poorly letting in an early try under the posts off a soft run – no one willing to step up and take a tackle. However, the boys replied almost instantly. Daniel in his first game of rugby blitzing the opposition round the outside, evening the score at 7-7. The rest of the match went on with some great attack from both teams but in all honesty some pretty poor defence, the scoreboard constantly ticking over. We went into half time with a solid 33-17 lead but with a point to prove in the second half.
In the second half we dominated against a tired St Christopher’s, running in 6 unanswered tries; the final score being 69- 17. Mention has to go to Daniel in his first game scoring 6 tries; quite the impressive feat. Nemo and Nick also found the line twice and Kieron managing to barge over once. Joshua V also was one of the few that stepped up in defence, thrown into fullback at the last second. Overall the team played well in attack but we have a lot of ground to cover on the defensive end of things. In the end a lot of work to do at training however, I am looking forward to how far we can come this season after just one game. MG
