2nd XV Rugby v Duke of Kent XV

8th January 2016

The 2nd XV started the new term’s first rugby fixture as though they were still digesting their Christmas pudding! Within the first few minutes the opposition had skipped through some rather half-hearted tackles to score in the corner. This provided the wake-up call that was clearly needed and now that the boys had got used to their wet, muddy shirts they found some enthusiasm.

Each and every member of the team stepped up to make some strong tackles and to take the ball forward aggressively when in possession. It wasn’t long before good work from Nick K provided an opportunity for Kye B to pick up from the back of a ruck and dart over the line to level the scores. An excellent conversion from Nemo B took us into the lead. The Duke of Kent team showed good footwork to elude some desperate last ditch tackles to score again just before half time but a missed conversion left the half-time score at 7-10.

Not long after the restart Kye again showed some well balanced running on a difficult pitch to step around several opponents for his second try. Again, Nemo stepped up to knock over the conversion. The opposition crossed the line soon after but dropped the ball and this proved costly when Luke M cut a great line across the face of the defence and then right through the last defender to take the score to 19-10. Nemo was successful with a third consecutive conversion. The Duke of Kent kept running fast and hard and only good tackling and excellent body positions at ruck time from Kieran E in particular kept them out. Freddie H and Nicholas H made good ground from running straight and the commitment shown throughout the team was great to see. In the final play, Luke again picked an excellent line through most of the opposition back line to score wide out and this time Nemo could not convert. The final score was 26-10 and the man of the match award goes to Luke M.

Well done all! HS
