Cold windy and Walstead away, the omens were not good. It has been a number of years since our last victory against what is always a well drilled outfit.

What a game of rugby we had, well refereed by Mr Valentine from Hurst. The boys started like a steam train and were rapidly 14-0 up in no time with Zac C going over from quick taken penalties from Zevon. Zac R on target twice with the kicks. GW came roaring back with 2 tries of their own to make it 14-12. The

forwards were well on top with all involved in pick and go’s from the ruck which we dominated. GW backs were fast and dangerous so the game see sawed before further tries from Zac R and Arjun put us in command at the half 24-17.

It appeared that the game was ours to win and the second half lifted the bar even further. Another score appeared to take the game away from GW but nobody had told the opposition as they came back again. 29-17 rapidly became 29-29 and it was us who were on the rack. 11 minutes to go and GW scored again to go ahead. Back came Copthorne to level it. 5 minutes left and GW scored under the posts however the kick was missed as the strong wind took it just wide. 2 minutes to go and the boys won the restart and kicked to the corner for the line out which Ben E had won all afternoon. Less than a minute to go and a big tap back from GW which they then tried to run from their own in goal area. Big pressure from the boys and GW were tackled behind their own try line. 5m scrum to Copthorne. Big call of “seal ball”. Scrum won and a number 8 pick saw Zac C going in under the posts. Scores tied! with the kick to come, no pressure then. Captain Zac lined it up took his time and calmly slotted the conversion. 41-39 and a fantastic game of rugby was over.

This is by far and away the best rugby that the boys have produced with no passengers and 15 heroes. Toby, Zevon, Arjun, Ben, Austin, Ollie, Kieron, Zac C, Bradley, Zac R, Elliott, Peter, Dan T, Beau and Luke double effort stars all round! The loyal supporters who were there have witnessed something really special and I hope that you enjoyed it as much as me and the boys. Wide smiles all round, what a great day. Hazelwood next up. JC
