The U8A’s unbeaten run continued on Wednesday afternoon as they won not one but two games in the afternoon. Both Handcross and Brambletye came to Copthorne with similar successes so far this season so the boys knew that they would be in for a tough afternoon of tag. Excellent performances from all the boys though ensured that they came through unscathed with two victories. Up first was Handcross in what turned out to be probably the game of the afternoon. Copthorne always seemed to be on top as they converted most of their possessions into tries. Handcross were always there or thereabouts though and Copthorne could never quite pull clear of them. A half time score of 4-3 left the game in the balance but better defensive work in the second half saw the boys eventually run out 6-5 winners. Straight after the final whistle the boys were back on the pitch for their second game against Brambletye. Perhaps somewhat of an easier game but nevertheless the boy had to put in a performance to ensure victory.
Once again very few mistakes meant that possessions were turned into tries and this is becoming a key feature of this team’s success. Very few times do any of the boys make mistakes giving the ball back to the opposition. This means that they score a lot of tries and added to their improving defensive work they are a very hard team to beat. A 6-3 half time lead showed Copthorne’s dominance. The second half was a closer affair with the boys probably tiring after two games in a row but they still held on for a comfortable victory in the end.
A whole half term without a defeat is a testament to the boys excellent performances and attitude both in games lessons and match days.
Here’s hoping they can continue with this success after the half term break. Team: Oliver W, Freddy G, Harry A, Rohan G, Charlie A, Taran S, Tobi A.
