Before half term we took a young team to Ardingly for the annual cross country relay competition. Although this is supposed to be a Year 7 and 8 event I thought I would give some of our young runners some valuable experience and following their success at Brambletye they deserved another crack of the whip.
The boys team of Sam R (Yr5), Jacob and Ben C (Yr7), Kieron, Beau and Daniel (Yr8) were up against a strong field and although they finished in 6th place out of 7 the gap between 3rd and 6th was only around 200m so they can be pleased with their efforts.
Our girls performance was quite special as will become apparent when you look at their ages. Katie and Biba (Yr4), Gabrielle (Yr5), Beth (Yr6), Abigail (Yr7) and Rosie (Yr8) crossed the finish line in 4th place out of 7 schools and were only 30 seconds behind 3rd. It was a superb run with everybody playing their part.
Each school had to nominate a boy and girl “runner of the day” and I am pleased to say that Jacob and Gabrielle took this year’s medals home with them.
I would like to thank all 12 runners for their efforts and commitment. It is not an easy course to complete due to the nature of the event where one slow lap can ruin a teams’ chances of success. Every child has to go flat out for around 1.3km so not to let their team mates down. Double effort stars for you all!
