What a day at the Ashdown cricket 6 a sides.
Glorious weather, great BBQ lunch and refreshments all day, good company and some cracking cricket.
André, Ollie, Dylan, Nabil, Zac and Toby faced the might of St Christopher’s, St Ronans, Ashdown, Brighton College and Imberhorne.
We got off to a flying start clattering 69 from our 5 overs against St Christopher’s and managed to restrict them to 52 for a comfortable win.
St Ronans was a tougher battle setting us a target of 67 and, despite our best efforts we finished 2 short but gained, as it turned out, 2 valuable bonus points.
Imberhorne made a good fist of chasing down our total but fell just short which then brought us to lunch. It appeared that we already had enough points to get to the semi finals and it was fortunate it turned out that way, as we lost our final group games to Ashdown and Brighton. The semi-final again against Ashdown, who were undefeated, was not our finest hour as we failed to bat out our 5 overs and set a low target of 40 which the opposition comfortably overhauled.
Still it was a great day and the boys played with real heart and after failing to get a point last year this was a real step up. The coach, who is currently sat with an ice pack, (you needed to be there) and smothered in after sun once again hopes that all present enjoyed the day as much as he did with the notable exception of an impromptu fielding moment! See you all on Monday. JC
