On Friday 3rd May we took a team of 8 pupils to Cumnor House to compete in the annual pentathlon event. This first meet of the season is a great way to ease in and the “low key” competitive edge always brings the best out of the athletes. We could not have asked for nicer weather as the sun shone throughout the afternoon which made for a great running surface.
All 8 pupils competed in the hurdles, 100m, long jump, shot put and finished with the 800m before the overall boy and girl winners were announced for the Under 14 and Under 12 age groups.
Josh Persad stormed to victory in the U14 boys and was joined on the podium by younger brother Daniel who took 3rd place in the U12 boys’ event.
Under 12 Squad:
Daniel Persad and Elise Fry (Year 5s competing in the age group above!), Dylan Holland and Harriet Pratt.
Under 14 Squad:
Josh Persad, Elliot Bayley, Sofia Yousif and Jessica St. John-Dennis
Josh came 1st in the hurdles and 100m and claimed 2nd in long jump, shot put and 800m.
Sofia came 1st in the long jump and 4th in both 100m and hurdles.
Jessica came 2nd in the shot.
Daniel came 3rd in the 100m, 3rd in the shot put, 4th in the hurdles and 4th in the long jump.
Dylan came 1st in the 800m recording a quicker time than the U14 runners!
Elise came 3rd in the hurdles and 100m.
Harriet came 2nd in the shot put.
Elliot unfortunately picked up an injury early in the competition so missed what would have been his strongest event!
Well done to all 8 pupils, you worked extremely hard in training and deserved your positions.
