Brambletye Cross Country

31st January 2018

We have enjoyed recent success at the Brambletye Cross Country meet and went looking to repeat last year’s dominance in the Under 11 section and even cause an upset in the U13’s.

Under 11 Team:

Sam R, Thomas S, Marcos F-C and Alexander S
Gabi H, Katie F, Biba M and Eva Z

As expected, Gabi and Sam lead from the front and never lost their lead throughout the 2.2km course to take 1st place in both the boys’ and girls’ rankings. Katie then crossed in 2nd before Alexander, Biba and Thomas finished in 6th, 7th and 9th respectively. Six top ten finishes out of 8 runners was a great start to proceedings. Not to be outdone, Eva ran beautifully to claim 11th spot with Marcos in 15th position. We were feeling confident of a good result following those finishing positions but time would tell.

Under 13 Team:

Austin L-A, Ben C, Jake M and Ali H
Abigail G, Emily W, Annabelle S-R and Mallory E

The seniors set off wanting to mirror the success of the U11 runners and Austin and Ben took it upon themselves to set the pace. Not known for their cross country running it gave me great pleasure to see them still leading going into the final hill however come the finish line they had to settle for a very respectable 2nd and 4th. Abigail led the charge for the girls, doing herself proud with a 7th place finish. Next it was Jake and Ali who capped off a fine performance for the boys’ in 9th and 10th place. Emily, Annabelle and Mallory worked tirelessly throughout the course finishing in 14th, 16th and 20th.

This promised to be a close competition and as the results were read out we were relieved to hear that the Under 11’s had secured top spot. The seniors took 3rd place in their race which meant an overall 3rd in the combined competition. Two points separated 1st and 3rd so we can be pretty pleased with our efforts but also a little aggrieved as we knew that if 1 of our runners finished 1 place higher we would have won! That’s cross country for you…
