Brambletye Cross Country

5th February 2016

The first cross country competition of the year was held at a blustery Brambletye. It was mainly firm under foot with the odd muddy patch so the risk of slipping and sliding was minimal! The course had been slightly lengthened from last year and adding that to the steep banks and climb to the finish line made for a tough run for all.

We performed exceptionally well on an individual front with Daniel W coming in 1st place in the seniors race and Gabrielle H claiming 3rd in the junior event being the pick of the bunch. There were good placings for Hermione, Emily W, Jacob and Alistair who finished 7th, 10th, 6th and 7th in their respective races too.

Beau, Bradley, Oliver C, Rosie and Abigail gave it their all in the senior section but could not quite get a top ten finish. The same can be said for Ben C, Jake M, Emily W, Emily G and Mallory in the junior section. Each and every one of the 16 runners did themselves and Copthorne proud in what is a difficult sport. It is often hard to find the motivation to keep on going, especially in cold conditions so I offer my thanks and praise to the team. My runner of the day has got to be Gabrielle, who as a Year 4 was racing against 20 Year 5 and 6’s and beat 17 of them … sorry Daniel!

Well done to one and all; double effort stars all round. MA
