Colts A Cricket v Brambletye

8th May 2016

From Snow to Sunshine!

Only in England can you play one week in freezing conditions in the snow to the following week slapping on the sun cream.

On a glorious early summer afternoon we had our first home game of the season. Brambletye decided to bat first which suited our game plan nicely. We once again made a positive start with Ali bowling their opener and Liban completing a run out to leave them on 23/2. Our quick start even caught some of our loyal supporters out as we made a couple more breakthroughs before they could get comfy in their deckchairs.

We continued to take wickets at regular intervals through Joe, Liban (2, one of which was aided by a great catch from Ali)), Jacob and Charlie, put this together with two further run outs restricted Brambletye to 83 all out at tea. We strolled over to the pavilion full of hope and were greeted by one of the best match teas you could hope to see, I find it difficult to find any better on the circuit.

So to the task of knocking off 84 runs to win. Jamie and Ben set about the task with great determination keeping out the good balls and punishing the bad ones. They both looked very comfortable and I thought we might win by 10 wickets but after a fine partnership of 56 Ben finally got out in the 11th over for 27. Jamie 17* stuck to the task and guided the boys home assisted by Karan 8* as we completed victory with 9 balls to spare and by 8 wickets. A moral boosting victory but remember there are players in the B’s that are banging on the door for a spot in the team so keep on your toes. IP
