Colts A Cricket v Brambletye – Summer 2017

4th May 2017

From Polar Bears and Penguins to Ducks and Fish.

So the first two games have seen the boys playing in freezing conditions last week to driving rain this week but despite the elements they have managed to notch up two wins.

Louis won the toss and put Brambletye into bat. Ali opened up and bowled a maiden to start, Shams produced a wicket maiden is his second over to give us a good start. Luke F took 2 wickets in his first over and Louis also picked up a couple in a 4 over spell, Wesley bowled a couple of very tidy overs towards the end, in total we used 8 different bowlers to restrict Brambletye to 87 runs from their 20 overs. A great performance from all the bowlers in very difficult conditions.

The run chase had to be fought on two fronts. Could we get the 88 runs required and more importantly could we beat the weather and knock the runs off before weather closed in.

Liban and Shams opened up, they gave us a solid platform before Liban was bowled. Luca joined Shams at the crease and from the outset it was obvious how these two would take the attack to Brambletye. A partnership of 56 took us close to victory before Luca fell for 18 to a high full toss. As we moved towards the target it also became obvious that Shams was getting close to his maiden 50. An agreement between umpires that the winning runs should be hit and not gained through wides gave Shams the chance to reach the milestone with a lovely shot through midwicket. A well deserved 52* for Shams with Luke 4* at the other end saw us to an 8 wicket victory with 6 overs to spare.

Next week is Windlesham and looking at the scorebook from last year they beat us by 70 runs, so a tough challenge next week.

Thank you to those parents who braved the weather again your support and encouragement is much appreciated.
